ANSC Trade Counter 3rd revision

This is the third revision of the Austin Nature & Science Center Trade Counter brochure, which I took far too long to complete. Too easy to get sidetracked when working from home as a volunteer graphic designer.

Spring Fashion 2012 - Study Collage

I finished another study collage, focusing this time on fashion in an attempt to improve my costume designs in the future. This particular piece presented two big challenges - I had to wrestle with the color I chose for the background, Pantone's color of the year, Tango Tangerine. The second challenge was dealing with the mostly vertical subjects I chose to depict, and filling the gaps I had left. I also enjoyed playing with keeping the faces to the minimal shapes of light and shadow and avoiding painting features in.

Now that that's done, I can move forward... with old projects I neglected, since I find it so hard to keep myself motivated on more than one project at a time, when I'm working on my laptop in my free time. Setting time aside on Thursday to go down to the MVZ to work on the mole skeleton keeps that project going smoothly, I finished filling all the bones in today, going to show it to my supervisor on Monday. If there are no issues, I'll scan it in and move on to inking.

Four Humors

I really need an update, it's been nearly a month. I have some projects in the works - drawing the skeleton of the broad-footed mole for the MVZ, still working on the Trade Counter brochure, albeit sporadically. For fun and more game related skills, I thought it would be good to get back into a little animation and pixel art, with characters based on the four humors.

Choleric is my favorite, so I'm pushing her foward, starting with animation tests.

In other news. GDC was great, Sunday to Friday, plenty to do even with just an expo pass. Still haven't followed up on all the cards I collected. My 40 cards or so pale in comparison with the numbers other people got, but not bad for an introvert with social anxiety, right? Meetups all over the bay area, wasting so much time on public transportation.

Fat ship and crustaceans: Finished

Made some color studies, cleaned up the perspective (although something still seems off on the front...) and polished things up. Uploaded the design to Overnight Prints and ordered 100, which should arrive by the 8th, though I hope they come in time for GDC. I'm also going to use it for some headers: Tumblr, Twitter, facebook when I get timeline.

I also decided that 18 was a good number of crustaceans, and the collage works as a whole.

Since I'm done with my card, I'm getting back to work on the ANSC Trade Counter pamphlet, which I neglected for too long. In other news, I've been going to networking events all over the Bay area, some of which were harded to get to than others, meeting new people, hearing things, enjoying free food (payed enough for travel though.) In other news, I've had an email from New Deal Studios in LA, asking me compiling my resume and portfolio into one pdf would be helpful, which I hope is good news.

Fat Ship

I need new business cards for GDC. While I'm happy with the front, I'd like to redesign the back, taking advice I heard at GDC Online. Thought a fat ship would be fun, so I did some thumbnails, then did variations on my favorite.

Some more progress on the crustaceans, too.

Moved into a hotel in Dublin, CA. Still hoping I find a job soon, it would solve so many problems.

I'm in Berkeley now, been a week since I landed here. Kinda rushed to get here on Saturday, hoping to get to sketch bomb, ended up abandoning the idea after I took the long way around, since I set my GPS to avoid tolls, and struggling with the parking. Typical Itamar. Slowly building a schedule and expanding the network, still grasping to the hope I'll find a job soon.
