Unearthing Architecture

After completing the Leoptiofis Oracle, I thought it would be a good idea to go with something different and design a space ship. I see I haven't posted any of the work I did on that, and there's no time like now to amend that, so here's the preliminaries, thumbnails based on sensing organs, from an eyeball and tongue to the inner ear and olfactory sensors:

Trying to plot the perspective for a beauty shot proved frustrating, so I created a 3D model to help me, but trying to render it to fit my style has me stumped.
I dug up some environment thumbnails I started a couple of months ago, of a temple on top of a floating island, part of the Leoptiofis project, half of which are in the following image. I added more thumbnails to see if I can come up with more ideas, picked a favorite and fixed some of the perspective (which still needs work) and threw some colors on it.

Going to keep working on it.
As usual, I have also continued doing a speed paint everyday, here are some of my favorites from the last time I posted:

GDC Europe Fever

The volunteer forms for GDC Europe going up a couple of weeks ago, I've filled mine out a day or two after it went up, and have kicked my art production into a higher gear in preparation for this event. Thank for letting me go, mom. :)

First on my list was my Leoptiofis oracle character. I might still give her some minor fixes if I get some good constructive critique or notice anything other than her huge feet.

Not quite sure what I'll be working on next. Maybe gun/prop/industrial design. Maybe an environment, or attempt to cope with an interior.
Or maybe I'll choose a speed paint, like one of these:

Reworking A Lady

Against all predictions, I found some motivation to keep working on my Leoptiofis seer. Slowly but surely she is shaping up into proper portfolio material. Maybe I'll be dusting off the website soon.

Got an anatomy pdf open on my laptop, and I'm fixing her one part at a time. Turns out she was too tall. Once I'm sufficiently happy with her anatomy, the plan is to show her in various states of dress.

A graphic design project collecting dust: A fun idea to take a made up brand, Urmacher, through various transitions, making it fit steampunk and cyberpunk aesthetics.

I Need An Excuse

{EAV:e1a0b053a984153a}

Not much done in the way of finished artwork, I just want to get the Empire Avenue upgrade out of the way. These things bug me.
All blame goes on Mr. Inouye.

Anyway, onto what I do have:

Study of a photo I took at St. Patrick's day 2012 in Dublin, CAlifornia, still in progress, though I'm losing patience, so no guarantees I'll get back on it.

Reworking an older speed paint I felt deserved more love than it got (rework didn't do much better)
"Facing Uncertainty"

Something quick in Painter, since I felt a little rusty. I only touch it for the occasional DSG these days.

And the usual slew of speed paints, including some from a new podcast - Paul Van Dyk's VONYC sessions:

Leoptiofis Seer

Evolving my blind seer character.
First I came up with a sketch for the type of environment she might inhabit - something along the lines of a classic Greek temple. Having decided on that direction, I did some thumbnails, looking for interesting shapes.

I then jumped to her cane, exploring ideas for it.
Liking the lion, I thought it would be fun to come up with a mythological creature to serve as her deity or totem, thus the idea for the Leoptiofis, the lion cobra with the eyeball pattern on its hood, spitting poison into eyes to blind.
